In 2016 entertainment company "Legendary" acquired the rights to make a live action Pokemon movie. This made me immensely happy. Pokemon was one of my favorite cartoons as a child and the idea of seeing all 150 Pokemon realized in stunning photorealistic detail made me want to explode like a Voltorb. 

However, instead of pursuing a dark and dramatic interpretation of the 90's anime, Legendary instead opted to make a kid friendly "Detective Pikachu" movie. This felt like a wasted opportunity to me. I directed my frustrations away from exasperated tweets and towards photoshop instead.

This poster was a personal project and part of a running series in which I take beloved childhood tv shows and reimagine them for the modern big screen experience and was done in collaboration with the Dutch agency Colorbleed.
